Model UN in Pakistan — A Student's Guide (2026)
Model United Nations is a student simulation of United Nations bodies. Delegates represent an assigned country or figure, debate a set agenda, negotiate with other delegations and work towards written resolutions. In Pakistan, MUN conferences are hosted by schools, colleges and universities across cities such as Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar, usually across two to four days.
How a conference is structured
A conference opens with a ceremony and committee briefings, then moves into formal sessions. Debate alternates between moderated caucus (short timed speeches on a sub-topic), unmoderated caucus (free negotiation and bloc building), and drafting time. Sessions close with voting on draft resolutions, followed by awards such as Best Delegate, High Commendation and Honourable Mention.
Committees you will usually find
Most Pakistani conferences run a mix of General Assembly committees (such as DISEC, SOCHUM or UNEP), specialised and crisis committees (Security Council, historical or regional cabinets), and non-UN bodies such as press corps or a legal court. Beginners are generally placed in larger General Assembly committees, where speaking lists are longer and the pace is gentler; crisis committees suit delegates who already have a few conferences behind them.
What to prepare before you arrive
- Read the background guide your committee publishes and note the questions it asks.
- Research your country's actual policy, allies and past votes on the agenda.
- Write a one-page position paper: background, national stance, proposed solutions.
- Prepare an opening speech of roughly 60–90 seconds.
- Learn the basic rules of procedure — motions, points and voting.
- Pack Western business attire, printed research, a notebook and your delegate pass.
Choosing a conference
Compare the committee list, the experience level it is pitched at, delegate fees, and whether accommodation or travel support is offered for out-of-city delegations. Schools often send a full delegation under one teacher or head delegate, while individual students can also apply on their own.
Registering for RIMUN 2026
RIMUN 2026 accepts both individual delegates and school delegations. You create an account, choose a committee and pass type, upload your payment receipt, and once the accounts and secretariat teams approve your application you receive a digital delegate pass with a QR code used for entry at the venue.
